Seems like my nephew Phil was right to start this campaign. Whilst many voices, especially in the media were 'gunning' for Beckham after the World Cup, no one player has emerged since for England who has such a command and singular ability to be a winner. If McClaren wasn't such a dork and left Beckham in the team, perhaps we not have been struggling to qualify for the Euros now.

Just a comment about Beckham’s performance against Estonia – watched the second half at 2:15 in the morning in Bangkok. Awesome crosses for Crouch and Owen to make it 3:0,and still Mclaren cannot state for certain whether he will be in the next England line up! Like they said on ESPN, Beckham saved Mclaren’s job.

I think your 100% correct with getting behind McClaren. we need to remember that we finally have an ENGLISH manager for an ENGLISH football team. i hold a lot of respect for McClaren and yes some bad decisions made but the famous saying "you learn from your mistakes" springs to mind. First I have to applaud you on your website, it is very well done, and it seems to have captured the voice of the nation.

However I strongly disagree with the return of Beckham to the England squad. Yes we played very badly against Macedonia and Croatia the formation was all wrong, but I believe Beckham would not have helped either situation.

Your points are all very well made but these should be decisions for the England manager to make. Surely, it's better to have a decision to make about how he organises his midfield than not! Since Gerrard and Lennon, who should probably be ahead of Beckham in the pecking order, were not available for the game against Croatia it was madness that Beckham wasn't available to play.

The Bring Back Beckham! campaign isn't about saying "I love Beckham!", although it is what a lot of the comments do say, it is about saying that Beckham deserves a place in the squad. What reason does Steve McClaren have for dropping Beckham completely? Scapegoat, PR stunt, personal issues - take your pick. Does he have a footballing reason? ...

Beckham is being kept out of a Real side by Raul (on form at the moment) and Reyes, two players that would probably get in the England side so I don't think it justifies his full exclusion.

Beckham surely deserves a place on the bench?

I actually registered and created the site http://www.recallbeckham.com before either of the recent games. I then registered http://www.bringbackbeckham.com just before the Croatia humiliation. So, the site was there before the press coverage. Yep, I've taken advantage of the hype but I'm not making money out of it. I think the site puts a valid point across. If you think that makes me a "clown" then so be it!

I agree that Beckham should have been dropped ages ago but only from the team - not the squad. Yes, Sven incorrectly put Beckham's name on the team sheet just because he was his captain. However, I still feel that he would have deserved a place in the squad.

I think Beckham, as Gascoigne in 1998, has been treated very poorly by his manager considering his service record and his quality. Quality deserves a place in the England squad, even if it is just to sit on the bench and come on for 20 minutes every other game.

I'm a bit disappointed that you've made incorrect assumptions about me and my motives but I guess for every 1000 people that agree with me there will be somebody who disagrees and wants to have a go at me because of my opinion.

It seems to me, and I agree, that you are more annoyed that Beckham used to get picked ahead of absolutely everybody for no apparent reason. This campaign isn't about ensuring Beckham is given his position in the squad because of who he is, it's about treating him as a normal player again.

Was it his fault that Sven blindly picked him for every single game? Personally, I don't think so. I also think that Beckham always performed to the best of his abilities - which sometimes wasn’t good enough.

The http://www.bringbackbeckham.com site is more about treating Beckham as he should be treated; a normal resource that is available to McClaren. The fact is that he has not been treated in that way. He has been used as a scapegoat to make McClaren look like his own man - and it's severely backfired.

McClaren should be picking the best 23 - 25 English players available to him and it's my opinion that Beckham would be included in that.

David Beckham should have been in the central midfield position years ago, long enough to have him well and truly established there now. Owen Hargreaves did quite well there but Beckham should have been there long before the World Cup freeing up Gerrard and Lampard to do what they are best at. Beckham's range of passing doesn't only have to be done from the right wing. There's more to football than crosses and Beckham has a lot more than just that to offer.

I’ll definitely post your comment! I’m going to add a section detailing the comments of those that disagree with Beckham’s inclusion. I’ve created the website because 1) I thought it was a good idea and 2) I do believe there is a place for Beckham in the squad. “Going back” would be blindly picking Beckham, or any other player, for every game. Common sense would be picking a squad based on the best players available to you.

Lampard is actually a very good example of how Beckham used to be treated. He isn’t performing for England yet repeatedly starts ahead of other players in better form. However, I think he should still have a place in the squad as he is within the top 22 – 25 players available to McClaren.

The great thing about this campaign and the general opinion isn’t “Oh, Beckham is the best player in the world ever”, it’s about the fact that he should be included in the England squad and that he’s been treated unfairly (scapegoat). Nothing more than that!

Not sure what you mean by “H and J”?

Anyway, I hope this clears up why I started the site and also gives you a better idea of my opinion.

I just don’t see why there isn’t a place in the squad for Beckham. The blurb on the site is:

I’m in no way saying that Beckham should walk into the team as he did with Sven. Sven blindly picked Beckham which was completely wrong. Lennon could have been a massive star at the last world cup but Sven, not Beckham, made the decision to start Beckham ahead of Lennon for every game.

For me, “moving on” means making the right decisions, not using Beckham as a PR scapegoat to say “Oh, look I’ve dropped Beckham, I must be my own man.” – which, ultimately, is what McClaren has done. It’s just backfired a tad ;-)

Although a lot of the comments on the site do slag Steve McClaren it is not the purpose of the site. I personally don't think that there is anybody better to do the job at the present time and it certainly isn't my opinion that McClaren should be sacked!

My opinion is that Beckham has been made a scapegoat, not for the first time in his career, and that one of the main reasons for him being dropped is that it was used to show that McClaren is his own man - and I understand that - but don't agree. It's also given Terry some time to bed down as England captain.

However, Beckham is certainly good enough to get into the squad. That is the whole point of the site:

"A site dedicated to getting David Beckham recalled to the England squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers."

Nothing more!

I have attended and watched football matches since I was 4 (now I am 67) and I have seen almost all the English footballers since the 1950’s and had great admiration to so many of them, and I consider Beckham to be among their very best, and it so puzzles me to see him being eliminated from the English team while he was one of the most needed key players for the team. It is in fact to me an utter madness to do so and it indicates either severe misjudgement on behalf of that manager, or otherwise something of a personal vendetta against Beckham which really is disgusting and deserves rather to eliminate that incapable manager of making the right decision!

OK, so the new boss will not be using his office for other activities for which Soho Square is famous. And he has shown some balls in another department, by taking tough decisions. But he is in danger of disappearing up the newspaper's backsides.

While Becks was made an unfair escape-goat for England’s World Cup exit - and probably needed a rest to remove the complacency that has crept into his game - he is, and always will be, a better player than Kieran Richardson, Phil Neville and Stewart Downing. All players who seem to have slipped McClaren’s gaze while he was busy smiling at the cameras and being whored to the press.

With two (ish) goals and two critical assists in Germany Becks also made more of a contribution than "Fatty Frank" Lampard. The Chelsea man's main contributions varied from giving the ball away to hoofing it into row Z, somewhere in the abyss behind the opposition goal.

Give young Frank a banjo and position him somewhere near the posterior of a cow. Take aim Frank, and try not to hit the farmer in the head.

Steve, do your self a favour and pick your best 22 players on form and ability. Would Master Richardson or Phil Nev be in the side if Kevin Nolan played for Arsenal? I thought not. It seems that even in an era of “progression and passion” some traditions die hard.

Being England manager requires you to take tough decisions. Decisions that are right for the national team not ones that please a Becks hating minority and favour your old mates from the long-lost glory-days at Old Trafford.
